The Heroic Eleonore Prochaska Falling at the Battle of the Gohrde By Carl Rochling (PC)
Eleonore Prochaska was a Prussian soldier who gained recognition for disguising herself as a man to enlist in the military during the Napoleonic Wars. She fought bravely and served in several battles becoming a symbol of female courage in a time when women were not allowed to serve openly in the armed forces. Prochaska was wounded at Battle of the Gohrde on the 16th of September, 1813 and died from her injuries.
