Historical art prints published by Cranston Fine Arts.
Artist Information:
Carl Rochling
Born in Glogau near Saarbruck on 18th October, 1855 and died in Berlin on 6th
May, 1920. Perhaps one of the most prolific military artists of the late
nineteenth century in Germany. In 1880 he studied under the great German
historical artist, Anton von Werner where he quickly developed an interest in
military subjects. The events of the Franco-Prussian War were particularly
appealing to the young artist and he produced many scenes of victorious
Prussians in battle such as an Episode in the Battle of Wissembourg and the
Capture of the Chateau at Gaisberg. Many of his pictures were used to illustrate
regimental histories of the various Prussian units involved in the 1870 war.
